What it does

Check Valves

A check valve is an automatic safety component that allows fluid to pass in one direction only and closes off reverse flow by itself. It requires no external actuation: closing occurs mechanically when flow stops and back pressure builds up. Check valves are used to prevent backflow and water hammer at pump outlets, to prevent reverse flow on boiler feed lines, and to isolate branches on lines fed from more than one source. Spring-loaded types permit both vertical and horizontal installation, swing types operate with low pressure drop, and dual-plate and disc types are preferred where a short face-to-face dimension is required.
